Religious Education of young people is important to us at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church (UUCC). The mission of Unitarian Universalist religious education is to nurture our children's unique spirituality and to cultivate strong moral character.

We offer a religious education curriculum during the worship service. Children join the adults for approximately fifteen minutes of family worship and a special children's message before leaving for their classes. Our youngest children (infants through age 5) receive loving childcare in a safe and stimulating playroom during the service.

However, children and parents wishing to stay together during the entire service are welcome to do so. A special "crying room" is available for parents and children who need a separate space from which to listen to the service. Our services welcome all ages and parents need not feel that "fussy" children must be "banished" from our celebrations.

This year's curriculum for elementary age children is Stories from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, viewed from a liberal religious perspective. Special multi-generational Sunday programs occur occasionally in lieu of the regular curriculum.

Our teens are currently meeting on a monthly basis with their Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento counterparts to follow the "Our Whole Lives" curriculum, an age-appropriate program on human sexuality.

The UU Principles in Language for Children

  • Each and every person is important.
  • All people should be treated fairly.
  • Our churches are places where all people are accepted, and where we keep learning together.
  • Each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
  • All people should have a voice and a vote about the things that concern them.
  • We should work for a peaceful, fair, and free world.
  • We should care for our planet earth, the home we share with all living things.
Adult Religious Education

In addition to the religious education program for children, adult religious education classes and discussion groups are offered on a regular basis. In general, these are led by the minister or by lay members of the church. See our newsletter for details of any upcoming programs or contact our minister to ask about current and upcoming programs and to discuss which ones might best suit your interests.
