When and whether to become a formal member of our church is a very personal decision. Pathways to membership vary. Some people come to our church, jump in and decide to become members after a few short weeks or months. Others, take their time and decide to join after many months or sometimes even years. You are welcome to take the path that suits you.
When you first come to our church, you are considered a “visitor”. If you keep coming for a few months, you are then considered a “friend” of the church. Periodically, we offer “UUCC Orientations” which will allow friends and visitors to ask questions and obtain information about UUCC and what membership means.
Although you may follow your own path, we do encourage prospective members to become involved. The section on Making Connections is a good place to start exploring how you might like to be involved in the church.
Per our church constitution, to become a member you must:
Our church is totally self-supporting. It is our personal financial donations to the church that support the minister’s salary, the roof over our head, and keeps the lights on. Our congregants are generous with their financial donations! When you join our church, you will be asked what amount of money you will pledge to give. Every Spring, we have our annual “canvass”, when we ask each member and friend what amount of money they will donate the following year. This allows us to set a realistic budget for the next fiscal year.
Once you are a member, you can have a voice! All church members can vote at our annual meetings and as needed when important issues are brought before the congregation. Only members may be on the Board of Trustees and chairpersons of committees and task forces.
If you have questions about UUCC or Unitarian Universalism, or if you’d simply like to get to know Reverend Martha, we encourage you to send her an email. Her address is .
If you feel you would like to be a formal member of our wonderful community, you may join anytime, simply by contacting the minister or a Membership Committee member. You can find the name of the Membership Chairperson listed under the Contact section of the current newsletter.
